Lea Uebelhoer
Research Internship and Assistant (2021-2023)
Lea came to Australia as a study abroad student in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science degree in geography with a focus on climatology and meteorology. However, during her exchange to UNSW she discovered her interests in beach safety and coastal hazards. She wrote her bachelor’s thesis ‘Perception vs reality: Beachgoers’ ability to identify rip currents in photos and in-situ’ under the supervision of Professor Rob Brander in 2021. She then completed an internship with Surf Live Saving Australia in 2020 and was a research assistant for the BSRG from 2021-2022. She completed a Masters of Marine Science and Management at UNSW Sydney in 2024. You can keep up to date with Lea on her LinkedIn page.
